Four Phases, One Rhythm
Some journeys move you from place to place. This one moves you.
The journey moves through four phases, each with its own rhythm — from your first days in the Masai Mara to the open plains of the Serengeti, down into the Ngorongoro Crater, and out to the Indian Ocean where it finds its conclusion.
Arrival & Immersion
Your first days in the Masai Mara. The landscape settles around you. The wildlife begins.
The Open Plains
The Serengeti. Scale. Silence. The sense that you are somewhere very few people have ever stood.
Into the Crater
The journey descends into Ngorongoro — one of the world's great natural wonders.
The Exhale
A private flight to Zanzibar, where the Indian Ocean replaces the savannah and the journey finds its conclusion.
The most popular format spans fourteen nights in total — but every element is open to adjustment.
Arrival & The Maasai Mara
At MaraYour journey begins with a scenic flight into the Maasai Mara. The approach by air is your first encounter with the scale of East Africa — an endless canvas of grassland, acacia canopy, and winding river channels. Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Tented Camp sits within the North Conservancy, away from the main reserve crowds. Settle in, take in the sounds of the bush, and let the wilderness arrive at its own pace.
The Days Move at Yours
The days that follow move at yours. A private guide and open vehicle take you through lion prides in the long grass, cheetah on the short-grass plains, and leopard sightings more reliable here than almost anywhere on the continent. Between July and October, the Great Migration brings the Mara River crossings to life in one of nature's most dramatic spectacles.
Your concierge can extend your stay, arrange a bush breakfast on the plains, or build in a Masai escarpment trek — whatever the Mara calls for.
The Serengeti
At SerengetiThe Serengeti is the largest continuous savannah ecosystem on earth. Game drive routes shift with wildlife movement, and your guide reads the landscape with precision — watching the behaviour of other species for signs of predator activity, positioning the vehicle for the right moment. From July through October, the Great Migration passes through — one of the most powerful wildlife spectacles on earth.
However You Spend the Day
The days here can be deepened with a walking safari, a breakfast served in the bush, or an evening meal under an open sky. Some guests want every hour accounted for. Others want to sit with a drink and watch the plains change colour.
How long you stay, and how you spend each day, is entirely your choice.
The Ngorongoro & the Crater
At NgorongoroA short flight to Kilimanjaro and road transfer drops you into Tanzania's volcanic highlands, where forested ridges give way to crater country. Neptune Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge sits on 50 acres of virgin bush, steps from the Conservation Area gate and 20 minutes from the Crater rim. Its 20 private cabin suites each open onto a terrace with open fireplace — inside a landscape that shifts with every hour of light.
Descending the Crater
Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater is an experience in itself. The floor is home to one of Africa's densest concentrations of wildlife — lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, zebra, wildebeest, and flamingo, all contained within a natural arena roughly 20 kilometres across.
The Crater is also one of the last reliable places in East Africa to encounter black rhinoceros in the wild. The number of nights here, the pace of each day, and any optional enhancements — a Maasai village visit, a stop at the Olduvai Gorge — are all shaped around you.
The Zanzibar Experience
At ZanzibarAfter a final morning at camp, a private transfer takes you to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. The island comes into view from above as a sliver of white and green against the deep blue of the Indian Ocean. At Neptune Pwani Beach Resort and Spa, the pace changes entirely. This is where the journey exhales.
Not One Experience but Many
Zanzibar is not one experience but many. Stone Town's UNESCO-listed maze of carved doors, Arabic archways, and spice markets rewards a full day of wandering. The island's marine world ranks among the finest in the Indian Ocean. Or simply rest — the beach, spa, and pools are designed for exactly that.
Most guests stay five to eight nights. Your concierge will help you find the balance.

Frequently Asked Questions
East Africa rewards you year-round, but timing shapes the experience. For the Great Wildebeest Migration at Mara Rianta in the Masai Mara, the peak spectacle runs from July through October, when the herds cross the Mara River and the plains are at their most dramatic. The Serengeti sees the herds from November through May, with calving season in January and February offering a completely different, equally extraordinary chapter of the migration. Ngorongoro Crater offers exceptional game viewing throughout the year — its resident wildlife does not migrate, meaning any month delivers. Our concierge team will help you match your dates to the experience you're most drawn to.
Every Neptune safari is built around a single conversation about you — not a brochure. Whether you want to witness the Great Migration from the Mara River bank, descend into Ngorongoro Crater at first light, or simply move slowly between three extraordinary ecosystems with no fixed agenda, the journey is shaped around your interests, your pace, and the moments that will matter most when you look back. No two Neptune guests leave with the same story. That is the point.
The full three-lodge journey is the experience we are most proud of — but it is never a requirement. Some guests choose a single lodge and spend their time going deep into one ecosystem. Others combine two locations. Some return year after year, adding a new chapter each time. There is no fixed itinerary and no obligation to do it all at once. Your concierge will help you design exactly the journey that fits your timeframe, your interests, and what you want to take home from it — whether that is five days in the Masai Mara or ten days moving across all three locations.
Almost everything — by design. From the moment you land, Neptune takes care of the rest. All accommodation, meals, game drives, park and conservancy fees, and all transfers between lodges are included. The only thing you arrange independently is your international flight to and from East Africa. Everything from your first game drive to your last sundowner is handled. Your concierge will walk you through the full inclusions specific to your itinerary during your planning conversation.
Africa at this depth is an experience that stays with children for the rest of their lives. Our concierge team will advise on the best lodge and timing combination for families based on the ages of your children and the experiences you want to share together.
Every transfer is arranged and seamless. Movement between the Masai Mara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro is handled through scheduled light aircraft flights between airstrips — one of the defining pleasures of the East African safari experience. Flying over the Serengeti plains or watching the Crater emerge below you from the air is a highlight in its own right. Ground transfers are arranged where applicable. You will receive a full logistics brief from your concierge before departure so that every arrival and departure feels effortless.
East Africa's major national parks and conservancies operate to exacting safety standards, and Neptune's guides are experienced, trained and deeply familiar with the behaviour of wildlife in each specific ecosystem. With over 40 years of hosting guests across Kenya and Tanzania, Neptune has an exceptional safety record. You will receive a full safety orientation on arrival at each lodge. For added peace of mind, travel and medical insurance — including access to emergency evacuation services — is strongly recommended for all guests.
Yes — both Kenya and Tanzania require entry visas. Kenya requires an Electronic Travel Authorisation, which can be obtained online before departure. Tanzania requires a visa, also available online or on arrival. If your journey combines both countries — as the full three-lodge experience does — you will need documentation for both. Your concierge will provide full visa guidance specific to your nationality as part of the pre-travel process.
The earlier the better — particularly for peak season travel. The Masai Mara during the Great Migration (July to October) and the Serengeti during calving season (January to February) are in high demand. Neptune's lodges accommodate a limited number of guests by design, which means availability during these windows fills quickly. We recommend beginning your planning conversation at least six to twelve months in advance for preferred dates.
